Kali Honeywood
My name is Kali Honeywood, and I grew up in Sacramento. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be on stage, but I was a shy kid. Everything changed in high school, I remember going to support friends in my high schools production of Much Ado About Nothing, sitting at intermission stunned, overwhelmed (in the best way) and wishing I played apart in the production. I told myself then, "I want to do this". Soon enough I received my schedule for the next school term and was placed in a theater class—I was quick to be scared and want to switch classes but I reminded myself to give it a few days. I attended class the next day and that’s when my passion for performance truly blossomed. By my junior year, I was fully immersed in advanced theater and vocal classes, along with being casted in all musical/theater productions.
At first, I was a theater major in community college but, after a few doubtful conversations about pursuing the arts full-time from extended family members and a personal discovery of my new found interest in ASL - I decided to major in Deaf Studies at Sacramento State, and graduated with both my Associate's and Bachelor's degrees with Honors. However, during my second-to-last semester, I hit a wall of burnout along with a big existential crisis and began questioning what I really wanted to do. Having many talks with family, friends and honestly anyone that would listen, my answer was always theater—and without hesitation they would all say"So do it"! That’s when I realized my heart and purpose had always belonged to theater... I was put on this earth to be on stage.
From that moment forward, everything fell into place. I starred as Cinderella in my university’s spring musical production of Into the Woods. Immediately after graduating, I made my professional theater debut at Capital Stage, playing Keisha Frasier in Jackie Sibblies Drury’s Fairview. All I can say is what a whirlwind this last year has been but what an incredible honor it has been to be part of such a meaningful productions.
Now, I live in San Francisco and although I'm not sure what is next I’m excited to continue pursuing my passion for theater, with a particular love for musical theater and live performance.
